Joshua 2:11 And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the Lord your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.
Have you ever wondered why Rahab allowed the Israelite spies to come into her house? What was it that gave her the courage to name the God of Israel as her own God? How is it that this prostitute from another country, came to know about the God of Israel?
Her revelation of God came about by the stories she had heard concerning the reality and power of Him. Rahab was obviously struggling with immorality and poor life choices, but her heart was drawn to God after she heard these amazing stories about Him. We see this in the very words she used in talking to the spies in Joshua 2:10 For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.
Under the circumstances, the fortified city of Jericho would have been almost impossible to conquer. But when we read this account in the scriptures, we see that the city became vulnerable because of the stories that were being told of God’s power. Long before the Israelites arrived, the self-sufficiency, pride, and arrogance of this city had dissolved in fear when faced with those who belonged to the God they had heard so much about. Even within the walls of this great city, the stories of God lead to one heart being turned that ended up playing a strategic role in the ultimate victory over Jericho.
We should take note of the power we posses in us when we tell the stories of God’s greatness in our lives, and how He has done so many wonderful things for us. You never know whose heart may be ready to respond! The next great victory just may depend on us sharing our personal story of God.
